Wheel or tire balance is basically the symmetrical or even distribution of the mass within the tire. How do we use a wheel balancer?

Before you balance a tire, you must make sure that it is concentrically seated. Else, one would have to deflate the tire and inflate it again to the recommended pressure.

1. The wheel balancer is reset by turning the machine on and off.
2. Cleaning the wheel is an important step for using the balancer. Remove all stones, rocks, or debris attached to the wheel.
3. Next, the wheel is required to be mounted on a balancer by appropriate methods. The three methods of mounting include Back cone, Front cone and Pin plate techniques.
4. Before the wheel can be balanced, the dimensions are entered into the computer. Thereafter the width of the wheel is noted down.
5. Next starts the procedure of balancing. The hood is lowered and the wheel rotates. The imbalances are measured and displayed on the screen.
6. Once the wheel stops rotating, the hood will be raised.
7. Notice the blinking of the inboard corrective measure. If required, an inboard weight is added. Else, the wheel is rotated to know the outboard corrective weight. Then the corresponding corrective weight is added to the wheel.
8. The last step involves spinning the wheel again to check the balance. This time, it should read 0.0.

An imbalance in the weight of the tire can cause huge difficulties. Hence, immediate steps are taken to correct the distribution of weight in the tires.
